Bangladesh-China Ties to Deepen Across Multidimensional and Tech Frontiers

Reaffirming the mutual commitment to deepening multifaceted bilateral ties and broadening technological frontiers, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan highlighted the strategic evolution of Bangladesh-China cooperation. He made the remarks as chief guest at a gala event celebrating the National Day of China and according a formal farewell to the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, organized by the 'Bangladesh-China Cultural, Economic and Mass Communication Centre' at Gulshan Club on Monday evening, 21 September 2026.

The event was attended by Posts and Telecommunications Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam as special guest and outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen as guest of honour, alongside members of the diplomatic corps, telecommunication engineers, trade delegates, and senior officials of the bilateral centre.

Addressing the gathering, Local Government Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan described China as a time-tested and reliable partner in Bangladesh's socioeconomic journey. "Martyr President Ziaur Rahman historically attached profound priority to cultivating bilateral ties with Beijing. Over his nearly four-year diplomatic tenure in Dhaka, Ambassador Yao Wen played an instrumental role across critical national projects, infrastructure development, and industrial modernization," Dr. Khan stated, adding that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, bilateral relations are poised to achieve new strategic heights.

Delivering his address as special guest, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam commended China’s technological leadership and engineering collaboration in developing Bangladesh's digital ecosystem. He noted that Chinese enterprises and technology standards have contributed significantly to advancing nationwide high-speed broadband, cellular tower backhauls, 5G rollouts, submarine connectivity, and data infrastructure. Looking forward, Minister Anam stressed expanding institutional synergies in artificial intelligence (AI), enterprise cloud architectures, and specialized workforce training to support the country's ongoing digital transformation.

In his farewell remarks, Ambassador Yao Wen extended gratitude to the government and the people of Bangladesh for their cooperation during his tenure. He reaffirmed that China remains steadfast in supporting Bangladesh's socioeconomic goals and industrial modernization, pledging continued private and public tech collaborations to build an inclusive digital economy.
