Championing physical well-being alongside academic excellence, the residential students of Munshi Meherullah Hall at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) inaugurated their 'Inter-Hall Sports Week 2026'. Operating under the guiding motto "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind," the week-long sporting festival was officially launched at 7:00 PM on Saturday, 19 September 2026, during an inaugural ceremony held at the hall’s dining auditorium.
The opening ceremony was addressed by JUST Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahamudul Hasan as chief guest, with University Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Faruque Hasan present as special guest. The session was presided over by the Provost of Munshi Meherullah Hall, Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf Sarkar.
The athletic schedule features indoor and outdoor tournaments distributed across the hall's recreation room, the university central playground, and the campus gymnasium. Competitions cover singles and doubles fixtures in carrom, chess, and table tennis, alongside inter-floor cricket and football league matches.
Delivering the keynote address, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Sheikh Mahamudul Hasan remarked, "Participating in residential sports and co-curricular programs instills leadership, empathy, and collective teamwork—qualities essential for professional career trajectories. However, while engaging in athletics, students must remain steadfastly anchored to their primary academic responsibilities." He reiterated the administration's active commitment to addressing residential accommodation, study environments, and cafeteria quality.
Special Guest Treasurer Prof. Dr. Mohammad Faruque Hasan observed, "Competitive athletics teaches resilience; often, defeat offers greater life lessons than victory. JUST maintains a proud competitive tradition in national collegiate sports. Through collaborative dedication from teachers and students, we aim to channel our institutional research and facilities to place JUST among the country's foremost public universities."
Following the speeches, the dignitaries proceeded to the fourth-floor games room to inaugurate the events by cutting the ceremonial ribbon and engaging in opening exhibition frames. In his presidential remarks, Provost Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf Sarkar affirmed that co-curricular sporting initiatives remain central to nurturing student mental wellness, driving the focus needed for cutting-edge research.
The ceremony saw the attendance of Physical Education Director Dr. Abhinu Kibria Islam, Proctor Dr. Md. Hamidur Rahman, assistant provosts, resident faculty members, and students from across the hall.
