AI Cameras Issue 429 Fines Rapidly
- AI cameras record 429 traffic violations within seven hours on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway
- Automatic CCTV network scans 250km stretch to identify speed and lane violations
- SMS alerts notify vehicle owners while fines accept mobile banking payments
Artificial intelligence (AI) powered surveillance cameras began enforcing automated traffic law compliance across the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway. On Tuesday (August 18), within the first seven hours of activation between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM, the automated system issued 429 digital traffic citations. Highway Police Comilla Region Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed the operational metrics.
Highway police data shows that a 250-kilometer stretch extending from Dhaka's Jatrabari to Chittagong City Gate is now monitored under AI surveillance. A total of 1,427 smart cameras were deployed across 490 strategic points along the highway to read vehicle license plates automatically. The system instantly detects speed limit breaches, illegal lane changes, dangerous overtaking, wrong-way driving, and unauthorized parking, immediately issuing digital citations via SMS directly to the registered vehicle owner's mobile number. Vehicle owners can subsequently pay traffic fines through mobile financial services like bKash or Nagad.
Highlighting the tech enforcement, Comilla Region Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahinur Alam stated, "Legal action will now be taken automatically against speed violations, illegal parking, and wrong-way driving on the highway. Drivers maintaining traffic laws will ensure road discipline while significantly minimizing highway accidents. Restoring overall discipline across the highway remains our primary objective."
