To support this vision, the government plans to introduce STEAM education—covering Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics—from the primary school level.
The announcement was made by State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj while addressing the Artech General Exhibition 2026 in Osaka, Japan, as the chief guest.
The state minister said the government is shifting away from rote learning and is working to create an education system that encourages children to ask questions, think critically, and solve real-world problems.
He noted that although Bangladesh has a large workforce, the country must reduce its dependence on the garment industry and develop a high-value, knowledge-based economy. According to him, introducing STEAM education at the primary level is essential to achieving that goal.
He also cited Japan's Meiji Restoration and its subsequent technology-driven transformation as an inspiring model for Bangladesh.
Bobby Hajjaj said effective STEAM education can be delivered through affordable, practical, and locally adapted experiments.
As part of the government's long-term plan, primary schools across the country will gradually be equipped with:
- Mathematics laboratories
- Science clubs
- Basic robotics education
Specialized training programs will also be introduced to prepare teachers for delivering STEAM-based instruction.
He added that the modular educational tools developed by Artech and Octobrain can be easily adapted for Bangladesh's educational environment.
According to the minister, strengthening STEAM education is essential for preparing future generations to address global challenges such as artificial intelligence (AI), climate change, and automation.
The exhibition was attended by educators, technology experts, and international delegates.
