China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) has officially commenced commercial operations for the second unit of its Taipingling nuclear power project in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province . The operational launch on Monday marks the completion of the first phase of China's primary 'Hualong One' technology-reliant nuclear power plant in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area .
The newly integrated unit employs China's self-developed third-generation 'Hualong One' reactor technology . Over 90 percent of the unit's main equipment is domestically manufactured, delivering a power generation capacity of 1,200 megawatts . General Commander Zhang Guoqiang confirmed that operating both phase-one units at full capacity will yield over 18 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, meeting residential and industrial demands for nearly 2 million people .
Under the master plan, the Taipingling facility will eventually house six 'Hualong One' reactor units . Once fully operational, the plant will produce around 55 billion kilowatt-hours of clean power annually, reducing standard coal usage by 16.52 million tons and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 58.2 million tons each year .
