Education Minister Stresses AI and Innovation to Lead Global Textile Sector
Speaking at the 4th International Conference at BUTEX, Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan highlighted the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in textiles.
Education and Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan emphasized the need to expand the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and research in the textile sector to boost its growth. He also expressed optimism that Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) will lead the world in modernizing the textile sector and confronting global challenges.
He made these remarks on Saturday (June 20) while speaking as the chief guest at the "4th International Conference on Textile Science and Engineering" hosted by the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX). The Minister noted that while Bangladesh ranks second globally in ready-made garment exports, the sector must step outside conventional bounds and integrate innovative practices, alongside strengthening 'Green Textile' models and recycling systems, to secure global leadership.
The Minister added that textile programs are expanding into private universities, necessitating state-of-the-art laboratory facilities to train students effectively for global market competition. He added, "We are working to transform the country's population into human resources, and for this, we are prioritizing the education sector. Concurrently, we are emphasizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to develop skilled manpower."
Minister Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan further stated that BUTEX students, with their talent and innovative strength, will achieve top
positions in the development of the country's textile sector and in the international arena. To attain this goal, he urged stakeholders to enhance the quality of the university's research and teaching.
Prior to the conference session, the Minister inaugurated the BUTEX Tree Plantation Program 2026, which aligns with the national goal of planting 25 crore trees over the next five years.
Professor Bastian Quattelbaum from the Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Germany, presented the keynote paper during the session. Chaired by BUTEX Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Julhas Uddin, the event featured University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed as the special guest.
