JUST Launches Inter-University Handball and Kabaddi Competition

Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has inaugurated the Inter-University Handball (Men’s and Women’s) and Kabaddi (Men’s) Competition 2025-26 under the slogan, “Sports as a Bridge of Friendship and Harmony.”

The five-day tournament officially began on Thursday morning at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Gymnasium, organized by the university’s Department of Physical Education.

The event was inaugurated by Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Engr. Imran Khan, who attended as the chief guest.

In his address, Prof. Khan said JUST has established itself as a notable institution not only in academics but also in sports. He noted that despite being a relatively young university, JUST has maintained a strong tradition of sporting excellence.

He expressed hope that such competitions would help develop national-level athletes while strengthening cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding among universities across the country.

The competition will continue from June 18 to June 22, featuring handball teams (men and women) and kabaddi teams (men) from 10 universities.

Participating institutions include Jashore University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh Agricultural University, the University of Dhaka, the University of Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University, the University of Chittagong, Islamic University, Rangamati Science and Technology University and the National University.

Organizers said the final matches will be held on June 22.

The inaugural ceremony was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Ziaul Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Convener of the opening and closing ceremony committee. Professor Dr. Md. Shahedur Rahman, Director of the Department of Physical Education, also addressed the event.

University deans, department chairs, hall provosts, officials, faculty members, students, coaches and athletes from participating universities attended the ceremony. The event was moderated by Assistant Director of Physical Education Md. Abdul Wahed.
