Coast Guard Seizes Smuggled Electronics Worth Tk 1.05 Million, Arrests Two in Patenga
The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized smuggled electronic goods worth Tk 1.05 million and a truck in Chattogram’s Patenga area. Two alleged smugglers were arrested during the operation.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a truck carrying smuggled electronic goods worth Tk 1.0528 million and arrested two alleged smugglers in the Patenga area of Chattogram.
In a press release, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander B.N. Suman Al Mukit said the operation was conducted following intelligence reports that a group was planning to illegally unload a large consignment of electronic products from a commercial vessel anchored at Jetty No. 10 under Patenga Police Station while evading customs duties.
Acting on the information, Coast Guard personnel carried out a special operation at around 5:00 am on Thursday.
During the raid, officers searched a suspicious truck and recovered electronic goods valued at Tk 1,052,800. The seized items included one refrigerator, one deep freezer, two washing machines, one portable air conditioner, four full-unit air conditioners and one outdoor AC unit.
The truck used for transporting the smuggled goods was also seized, and two individuals allegedly involved in the smuggling operation were arrested.
According to the Coast Guard, legal proceedings regarding the seized goods and the detained suspects are currently underway.
The force reiterated its commitment to continuing such operations in the future to prevent smuggling, customs evasion and the illegal transportation of goods in coastal areas across the country.
