Bangladeshi B2B commerce platform ShopUp has exported 300 metric tons of rice to Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. The company has also started exporting fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits to Middle Eastern markets.

The e-commerce startup disclosed the information in a media statement issued on Saturday. According to the statement, the rice exports were carried out under government-approved export allocations for Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.

The company claimed that the products were supplied in compliance with the quality standards, compliance requirements, and supply chain demands of both countries.

ShopUp said it has now entered the fresh vegetable and seasonal fruit export market as part of its broader export operations. Exporting such products requires rapid logistics support, cold-chain facilities, and integrated supply chain management.

The company also announced plans to export mustard oil, puffed rice, and other dry food products in the future.

Chief Executive Officer of ShopUp Bangladesh, Ataur Rahim Chowdhury, said, “Bangladesh produces far more than current global demand in several sectors. Our goal is not just to export a few products in isolation, but to build an infrastructure through which Bangladeshi food products can reliably reach global markets on a large scale.”

He added that although the journey has started with rice and fresh agricultural products, Bangladesh has the potential to become a strong exporter of a wide range of food items in the future.

Currently, a major portion of Bangladesh’s total exports depends on the ready-made garments sector. As a result, the government is placing emphasis on diversifying exports through agricultural and processed food products. The country’s “Export Policy 2024–2027” has identified agriculture and food products as promising sectors.

ShopUp stated that its integrated commerce, logistics, and financial infrastructure is used to distribute food and daily essentials to retail shops across different parts of the country. The company currently operates through more than 400 micro-fulfillment hubs.

ShopUp is now part of Sary, which was formed through the merger of Saudi Arabia-based B2B marketplace Sary and ShopUp.
