Chattogram Mayor Calls for Tech-Driven Infrastructure Using Industrial Slag
Dr. Shahadat Hossain has emphasized the need to increase the use of modern technology in the infrastructure development of Chattogram city. He said that to ensure sustainable development, scientific and modern methods must be applied beyond conventional approaches.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar held on Wednesday, 13 May, at the conference room of the Chattogram City Corporation office in Tigerpass. The seminar was organized by BSRM to explore the potential use of slag produced during steel rod manufacturing in road construction.
The seminar highlighted that slag is a type of residual material produced during metal melting or extraction, composed of metal oxides and silicon dioxide. It is environmentally friendly and can be used as an alternative material in road and infrastructure construction.
The Mayor said that relying solely on traditional methods for building roads, bridges, and other infrastructure is not sufficient. He stressed that new ideas and techniques must be adopted in line with technological advancement. This, he added, would help reduce costs while ensuring environmentally sustainable development.
Representatives of BSRM presented the benefits, durability, and environmental impact of using slag during the seminar.
The event was attended by Md. Ashraful Amin, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of CCC, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, Supervising Engineers (Civil) Farhadul Alam, Mohammad Shahin-ul Islam Chowdhury, Jasim Uddin, and Abu Sadat Tayeeb, along with other relevant officials.
