Customers will no longer need to stand in queues at post offices to pay premiums or installments for Postal Life Insurance. They can now make payments from home using the mobile financial service Nagad. To this end, an agreement was signed on Wednesday (May 6) between the Bangladesh Post Office and Nagad.

At a ceremony held at the Dak Bhaban in the capital, Additional General Manager (Eastern Region, Dhaka) Moha. Abdul Hannan and Additional General Manager (Western Region, Rangpur) Pradip Kumar signed the agreement on behalf of the postal department. Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Md. Shamsul Islam signed on behalf of Nagad.

The signing ceremony was attended by Director General of the Department of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam and Bangladesh Bank-appointed Administrator of Nagad Md. Motasim Billah.

Under this agreement, premiums for all types of Postal Life Insurance policies—including whole life insurance, endowment insurance, specific insurance, and marriage insurance—can be paid through Nagad.

Introduced in 1888, Postal Life Insurance is one of the oldest life insurance services in the country, currently serving around 200,000 customers. Previously, customers had to visit post offices within a specified time to pay installments. Now, they can securely pay premiums anytime from their Nagad accounts.

Customers can make payments by selecting “Dak Jibon Bima” (Postal Life Insurance) or “PLI” under the ‘Bill Pay’ option in the Nagad app, entering their policy number and required details. Upon successful payment, they will receive an instant digital receipt and confirmation message.

Director General Kazi Asadul Islam said, “Postal Life Insurance is a reliable means of financial security for ordinary people. With the introduction of premium payment through Nagad, customers will receive faster and more convenient services, while the digital transformation of the postal department will advance further.”

Nagad Administrator Md. Motasim Billah said, “Our goal is to make people’s lives easier. This initiative will reduce customer suffering, save time, and make government services more accessible.”

Additional Director General (Accounts and Establishment) S M Harunur Rashid, Additional Director General (Supply and Inspection) Parveen Banu, Additional Director General (Postal Services) Md. Zakir Hasan Noor, Director (Investigation and Inspection) Khan Hasan Mohammad Iqbal Masud, along with senior officials from the postal department and Nagad were also present at the event.
