JUST Marks National Nutrition Week with Awareness Activities

Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) celebrated National Nutrition Week with a series of events, including a colorful procession, a brief discussion, and a nutrition fair, under the theme “End the days of nutrition disparity, build a self-reliant Bangladesh.”

On Wednesday, 29 April, the Vice-Chancellor of JUST, Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir, inaugurated the programs of ‘National Nutrition Week-2026’ organized by the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology (NFT) of the university.

The observance of National Nutrition Week at JUST began with a vibrant procession from in front of the university’s administrative building. The procession moved along the main road of the campus, passed by the road adjacent to Odommo Ekattor, and concluded in front of the administrative building. Students participated in the procession carrying colorful banners, festoons, and placards related to nutrition. Following the procession, a nutrition fair commenced at the field of JUST School and College, where students took part enthusiastically.

While speaking at a brief discussion at the beginning of the procession, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yarul Kabir said that ensuring safe and nutritious food is a major challenge of the present time. He emphasized that producing skilled and educated manpower in the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology is essential to eliminate the coexistence of undernutrition and overnutrition in the country and to meet the growing demands of the food processing industry. He also stressed the importance of building a healthy and intelligent nation through balanced dietary habits. He called on everyone to raise awareness about nutrition and food at both family and social levels and to work collectively toward building a healthy nation.

Professor Dr. Imran Khan, Convener of the Deans’ Committee of JUST; Professor Dr. Sheikh Mizanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology; Professor Dr. Md. Nasim Reza, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science; Professor Dr. Shirin Nigar, Chairman of the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology; Professor Dr. Md. Omar Faruk of the NFT Department; along with teachers and students of the department were present among others.

At the nutrition fair, students of JUST School and College were provided with BMI assessments, diet charts, and various advisory services for maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
