A teenage boy in Rupganj’s Kanchan area of Narayanganj staged a robbery at his own home with the help of two friends to buy a new mobile phone and a Free Fire gaming ID.

Local police revealed the information while uncovering the mystery behind the reported robbery. Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam said that during primary interrogation, the three arrested teenagers admitted they had planned the fake daytime robbery to collect money for a new phone and a Free Fire game ID.

The three were arrested on Friday night, 5 December, and police recovered a portion of the stolen cash and gold ornaments.

Earlier, on the afternoon of 24 November, it was alleged that robbers tied up Shahriar—the eighth-grade son of expatriate Abdur Rashid—and broke into an almirah, making off with Tk 1 million and 10 bhori of gold jewelry. Abdur Rashid later filed a robbery case with Rupganj Police Station.

The matter came to light when Shahriar’s friend Shah Alam bought a new mobile phone and his family questioned the source of the money. When locals began probing, they detained Shahriar, ninth-grader Nabil, and sixth-grader Shah Alam. During questioning, all three confessed to staging the robbery.

Police recovered Tk 278,000 in cash and 2 bhori of gold ornaments from the teenagers at the time of arrest.
