Banglalink Boosts Green Growth with Major Solar Power Partnership
Banglalink, one of Bangladesh’s leading mobile operators, is set to power over 15,000 of its BTS sites, data centers, and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) with solar energy as part of a nationwide sustainability initiative. The company aims to convert 60 percent of its total energy consumption to renewable sources under this plan.
To reduce dependence on fossil fuels, Banglalink has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Flosolar Solutions Limited to procure solar power. As part of its renewable energy commitment, the operator will establish a 100-megawatt solar power plant.
According to the agreement, Flosolar and its partners will oversee the development, financing, and operation of the solar facility, while Banglalink will purchase the electricity under a long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA). Once operational, the plant is expected to reduce Bangladesh’s annual carbon emissions by approximately 76,000 tons—a milestone that could transform the country’s telecom energy ecosystem and significantly lower Banglalink’s carbon footprint.
Commenting on the partnership, Banglalink’s Chief Technology and Information Officer, Hussain Turkar, said, “At Banglalink, we are committed to building a sustainable future through renewable energy adoption. This solar power project, in collaboration with Flosolar, will strengthen Bangladesh’s renewable energy landscape and serve as a milestone for future large-scale green projects. I firmly believe that with the right blend of technology, innovation, and foresight, we can accelerate toward a low-carbon and energy-secure future.”
Flosolar Solutions Limited’s Founder and Managing Director, Mostafa Azim Kasem Khan, remarked, “We are committed to supporting the country’s telecom operators in adopting clean, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions. Our partnership with Banglalink stands as a strong example of this commitment. Through an innovative project structure and long-term corporate Power Purchase Agreement, we aim to deliver a measurable solar energy solution aligned with corporate social responsibility strategies and contribute to achieving national climate goals.”
