July Journey: Films & Drones Celebrate Women's Uprising
In commemoration of the historic July Mass Uprising and the pivotal role played by women, a nationwide film screening programme will be held on Monday, July 14. According to Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, films highlighting “the glorious role of women in the July Mass Uprising” will be screened across all 64 districts and universities tomorrow evening at the Central Shaheed Minar, beginning at 6 PM.
The event at the Shaheed Minar will include a film screening, remembrance of martyrs’ families and female July fighters, cultural performances, and a special drone show featuring thousands of drones recreating scenes from the uprising. The programme will conclude at midnight with a final drone spectacle.
Organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and managed by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy as part of the "July Reawakening" series, this event forms part of a month-long observance marking the anniversary of last year’s uprising. The initiative aims to revive collective memory through cultural engagement and storytelling.
Celebrated as July Women's Day, the occasion underscores the indispensable contributions of women—from female students who spearheaded the movement to mothers and professionals—whose participation has been described as "unprecedented" in the nation’s history.
The screenings, performances, and drone show are open to the public and all media outlets are invited to cover the festivities.
