Bangladesh Mathletes Bound for Australia in Upcoming IMO 2025
Bangladesh’s national mathematics team is set to depart for Australia on July 12 to participate in the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), marking the country's 21st appearance at the prestigious event. This year’s IMO, to be held in the city of Sunshine Coast, will run until July 19 and feature around 600 competitors from over 100 countries.
The announcement was made during a press conference organized by the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee on Wednesday, July 9, at 4:00 PM at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. At the event, Committee President Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad introduced the six members of the national team.
The selected team members are: Monami Zaman from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (SSC candidate), Jawad Hamim Chowdhury from Ideal School and College (SSC candidate), M Zamiul Hossain from Rajuk Uttara Model College (Grade 10), Jitendra Barua from Baklia Government College, Chattogram (Grade 12), Md. Raihan Siddique from Chattogram College (Grade 11), and Tahsin Khan from Mymensingh Zilla School (SSC candidate).
Also accompanying the team are Team Leader Dr. Mahbub Alam Majumdar, Deputy Leader and Committee General Secretary Munir Hasan, and Observer and Olympiad Coordinator Bayezid Bhuiyan.
Speakers at the press conference included Vice President of the Committee Abdul Hakim Khan, Committee members Professor Ujjwal Kumar Deb and Azmat Iqbal, Prothom Alo Executive Editor Anisul Hoque, and Deputy Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited Ehteshamul Haque Khan. The event was moderated by Munir Hasan.
Organizers stated that the team was selected through a rigorous screening process following the Dutch-Bangla Bank Prothom Alo Math Festival 2025, which registered 75,596 students from over 18,000 institutions across the country. After multiple rounds of evaluation, the final six were chosen to represent Bangladesh on the global stage.
