Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has stated that fertilizer imports will be increased this year to boost agricultural production and guarantee supplies according to farmers' demands. The Minister made these statements as the chief guest during an exchange meeting with stakeholders regarding the overall management of fertilizer, seeds, irrigation, fisheries, and livestock in Rajshahi division, held at the conference room of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The Minister stated that the government will supply as much fertilizer as required to increase agricultural production. The government remains vigilant to ensure farmers do not face any fertilizer shortages under any circumstances. Currently, fertilizer reserves in the country are approximately 35 percent higher compared to the same period last year, meaning there is no current shortage and no apprehension of future scarcity.

Directing administration and law enforcement agencies to maintain strict surveillance to prevent fertilizer smuggling, the Minister stated that dealers must draw their allocated fertilizer on time. Any dealer failing to lift fertilizer within the specified timeframe will be identified as a defaulter. Dealerships cannot be rented out or transferred to others, and legal action will be taken against those involved if irregularities or corruption are proven.

For the convenience of farmers during peak season, he instructed dealers to open shops by 9:00 AM and keep them open until 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM. The Minister noted that if fertilizer demand increases due to the expansion of new crops and agricultural activities, the government will provide the necessary supply. However, considering soil fertility and production costs, agricultural officers must strengthen field-level training and advice to raise farmer awareness about balanced fertilizer usage. He also urged fisheries officers to provide necessary guidance regarding fertilizer use in fish farming.

Directing relevant officials to expand the cultivation of ginger, tomato, and green chili in Rajshahi district, the Minister stated that the country must achieve self-sufficiency in these crops locally.

Presided over by Acting Divisional Commissioner Md. Rezaul Alam Sarkar, the meeting was addressed by Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) Member of Parliament Abu Sayeed Chand. District Commissioners and Deputy Directors of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) from all districts of Rajshahi division participated in the meeting.
