Pathao, one of Bangladesh's leading digital platforms, and Mastercard have jointly launched the 'Digital Payment on Delivery' (DPOD) service, with Mastercard joining as the official payment partner. Through Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS), customers will be able to make secure card payments. The new service was inaugurated at a ceremony held on November 4, 2026, at the Gold Room of The Westin Dhaka.

Under this new service, when a parcel is dispatched for delivery, the customer will receive a payment link via SMS. By clicking the 'Pay Now' option on that link, customers can settle payments using bank cards or Mobile Financial Service (MFS) wallets. This eliminates the need to carry physical cash, arrange exact change, or be present at a specific location during delivery, enabling customers to pay easily and conveniently while reducing reliance on cash.

The launching ceremony was attended by Pathao Managing Director and CEO Fahim Ahmed, Mastercard Division President for India and South Asia Gautam Aggarwal, Mastercard Country Manager for Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal Sandun Hapugoda, and Mastercard Country Manager for Bangladesh Zakia Sultana, along with other senior officials from both organizations.

Traditionally, Cash on Delivery (COD) methods present various complexities regarding cash collection, daily operations, and transaction reconciliation. The DPOD service has been introduced to mitigate these issues, allowing customers to pay digitally before or during product delivery. Once a Pathao delivery personnel sets out with a parcel, a secure payment link is sent to the customer's mobile phone via SMS, enabling them to pay remotely from home, office, or even when receiving the parcel through someone else.

Customers can use mobile browsers to make payments using designated debit, credit, or prepaid cards, alongside other approved digital payment methods. Official payment partner Mastercard will securely process card transactions through its Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS), ensuring digital transaction security upon successful payment. This will reduce the need for physical cash collection and streamline revenue collection for businesses.

Pathao Managing Director and CEO Fahim Ahmed stated that Pathao's goal is to make people's daily lives easier through technology. Through the Digital Payment on Delivery service, they are further reducing payment complexities during product delivery, enabling customers to pay conveniently and businesses to collect funds more easily. He expressed confidence that such innovative initiatives will play a vital role in increasing digital payment adoption in Bangladesh and advancing the future commerce ecosystem.

Mastercard Country Manager for Bangladesh Zakia Sultana stated that the future of digital commerce depends on payment systems that are secure, simple, and convenient for both consumers and businesses. Through this new service, they are introducing a more modern and convenient payment system during product and service delivery, while helping businesses streamline fund collection and daily operations. She added that this initiative reflects Mastercard's commitment to expanding digital financial inclusion for all and accelerating the progress of the nation's digital economy by bringing Bangladesh under broader digital connectivity. //DBTech/SC/DE/OE//
