Apple and LG Collaborate on New Smart Home Devices
US technology giant Apple is working with South Korean technology company LG to develop a range of new smart home devices as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in the smart technology market.
According to a report by international media outlet Bloomberg, Apple and LG are jointly developing smart deadbolt locks, thermostats and video doorbells. The devices are expected to work with Apple’s upcoming smart home control centre or hub.
According to reports from international news agencies, Apple is likely to unveil its new smart home device, featuring a six-inch square display, on October 13.
New Security Features and Intensifying Market Competition
The collaboration is not limited to doorbells and thermostats. The two companies are also developing a range of security cameras for residential use. These include various indoor and outdoor cameras, as well as specialised floodlight cameras.
International media reports suggest that details of the devices could be officially unveiled as early as next week. Although Apple and LG are jointly developing the underlying technology, the devices are expected to be marketed primarily under the LG brand.
According to industry observers, Apple’s strategy is aimed largely at challenging the strong market presence of Ring, the smart home security brand owned by Amazon.
Strategy to Expand the Smart Home Ecosystem
In recent years, Apple has been expanding beyond its traditional hardware products and exploring new technology markets. The primary objective of the latest collaboration is to make smart home services more accessible and seamlessly integrated for consumers around the world.
Analysts believe that leveraging LG’s manufacturing facilities and production capabilities could allow Apple to bring the new products to market more efficiently and cost-effectively.
If the expected announcement takes place on October 13, it could mark a new chapter in the adoption of smart home technology among consumers.
