Businessman Allegedly Assaulted Over Internet Bill

A businessman in Hajirpara Union of Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, has alleged that he was assaulted and suffered a broken hand following a dispute over an outstanding internet bill. The incident reportedly took place on Monday evening, September 21.

The injured businessman, Md Belal Hossain, is the son of Abul Kashem of Hajirpara Union. He is the manager of Lakshmipur Communication Network and a candidate for general secretary of the Hajirpara Union Jubo Dal. Amzad Bhuiyan, who has been accused in the incident, is a candidate for president of the same union Jubo Dal, according to the information provided.

Belal Hossain alleged that Amzad Bhuiyan had outstanding internet bills for around four months. After the bills remained unpaid for an extended period, his internet connection was disconnected on September 20 in accordance with the service rules. Belal alleged that Amzad then arrived at his shop with several people on Monday evening and attacked him.

According to Belal, he was beaten during the incident and suffered a broken hand. Local residents later rescued him and took him to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. An online report also described injuries to both of his hands.

A video purportedly showing the incident has also circulated on social media. Online reports have described the video as showing the assault, but the original source and every part of the footage could not be independently verified. Attempts were made to contact Amzad Bhuiyan by phone regarding the allegation, but he could not be reached. His response to the allegation was therefore unavailable.

Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rob said the police were not aware of the incident. He said necessary action would be taken after an investigation if a written complaint is submitted.

The incident has drawn attention online following the circulation of the video and publication of reports. However, no police investigation or formal complaint establishing responsibility had been confirmed in the information available at the time of this report.
