Four BAU students win Dean’s Merit Awards

Four meritorious students of the Faculty of Fisheries at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have received the ‘Dean’s Merit Award-2026’ in recognition of their academic performance. At the same event, 108 students from the 2020-21 academic session received certificates for completing their internships.

The programmes were held at 11am on Tuesday, September 15, at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall, organised by the Faculty of Fisheries.

BAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Sardar attended the event as chief guest. Special guests included Dean Council Convener Professor Dr Md Bahanur Rahman, Department of Fisheries Mymensingh Divisional Office Director Nripendra Nath Biswas, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute Director (Research and Planning) Dr Md Amirul Islam, and WorldFish Bangladesh Country Representative Dr Faruk-ul-Islam.

The event was chaired by Faculty of Fisheries Dean Professor Dr Md Ali Reza Faruk and moderated by Nafis Tasnim Binti and Salman Shahriar Arnab. Professor Dr Zoardar Faruk Ahmed, coordinator of the Internship Management Cell (IMC), delivered the welcome address.

Associate Professor Dr Md Al Imran of the Department of Fisheries Management presented an overview of the completed internship programme. Certificates were then distributed among the students who completed their internships, while the Dean’s Merit Awards were presented to the meritorious students. Two students also shared their internship experiences.

Congratulating the interns, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Sardar said the internship programme was introduced at the Faculty of Fisheries on his initiative when he served as the faculty dean two years ago.

He said the fisheries sector would play an important role in meeting people’s nutritional needs in the coming days. The university would therefore take initiatives to further modernise the curriculum of the Faculty of Fisheries, he added.

The vice-chancellor expressed hope that students would enhance the university’s reputation by working with merit, skills, honesty and dedication at home and abroad.

In his closing remarks, Dean Professor Dr Md Ali Reza Faruk thanked everyone who attended the programme.

Teachers of the Faculty of Fisheries, university teachers and officials, officials from the Department of Fisheries and Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, and representatives of private hatcheries and fish feed mills also attended the event.
