BAU wins Innovation Fair

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has won the university category at Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026 in recognition of its achievements in innovation and creativity. The university showcased 12 selected innovations related to agriculture, research and food security at the fair.

Bangladesh Agricultural University showcased 12 selected varieties and technologies from its portfolio of 97 developed varieties and more than 20 technologies.

According to the university, the scientific importance, practical applicability, creativity and commercial potential of its innovations attracted visitors, industry entrepreneurs and policymakers. The university said its technologies were considered highly promising and public-oriented in comparative evaluations with innovations from other universities.

BAU was declared the champion in the university category at the closing ceremony of Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026 on Monday evening, September 14.

Prime Minister’s Economic and Planning Adviser Professor Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir and Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md Anwar Hossain handed the award crest to Bangladesh Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mostafizur Rahman. Other innovators from the university were also present.

Expressing satisfaction over the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mostafizur Rahman said the recognition was the result of the collective efforts and tireless work of the university’s innovators, students, teachers, officers, employees, laboratory staff and field-level workers.

He expressed hope that BAU’s innovations would contribute significantly to the modernisation, development and sustainable advancement of Bangladesh’s agriculture sector. He also expected the innovations to contribute to ensuring the country’s food and agricultural security.

The vice-chancellor further said the university’s ongoing innovations would play an important role in building a ‘Prosperous Bangladesh’, as envisioned by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

BAU also highlighted its national and global positions in different international rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), describing the Innovation Fair recognition as another significant achievement for its innovation activities. 

The Bangladesh Innovation Fair was organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology at Novo Theatre in Dhaka from September 12 to 14. The fair was held under the theme ‘Innovate to Market’.

Public and private universities and other institutions showcased their innovations and technologies at the event. More than 1,000 innovative technologies were displayed by participating universities.
