Customs intelligence officers have intercepted a large commercial consignment of mobile display hardware and electronic vaporization devices (vapes) at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Public Relations Officer Al Amin Sheikh confirmed the development on Monday, September 14. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Airport Circle B-shift team under the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate conducted targeted passenger screenings across arriving international flights on Sunday, September 13. The estimated market value of the confiscated goods stands at approximately 1,745,500 BDT.

Customs officials stated that passenger Shipon, arriving from Malaysia aboard AirAsia flight AK-71, was intercepted with 44 vaping units concealed inside his baggage. Concurrently, officers searched two passengers arriving from Guangzhou, China on US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-326. Screenings yielded 98 mobile displays from K M Tofayel Ahmed and 46 units from Shamima Akter, bringing the total haul of recovered mobile display units to 144.

Earlier that day, passenger Abdul Karim, arriving from Dubai on Emirates flight EK-584, was intercepted while crossing the green channel. A baggage search revealed 223 cartons of undeclared foreign cigarettes.

Customs intelligence authorities are closely examining the recurring instances of illicit shipments originating from Dubai, Malaysia, and Guangzhou. Investigators are verifying whether organized smuggling syndicates deployed these passengers as commercial carriers to bypass import duties.
