According to reports, the conflict escalated after India's IT ministry demanded explanations regarding child exploitation ads appearing on Instagram. Although Meta maintained a 'zero tolerance' stance, operational glitches led to the temporary suppression of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Facebook post, triggering severe regulatory reactions. Additionally, Hyderabad Police registered a case against Meta India head Arun Srinivas over objectionable video circulations.
India has drastically tightened its IT regulatory framework, stripping big-tech platforms of traditional legal safe-harbor immunity.
