CUET Marks July Uprising Day 2026 with Tribute to Martyrs and Call for Accountable Governance

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) observed July Uprising Day 2026 with a series of programmes, including a discussion session, photography exhibition, documentary competition, children's art and recitation contests, and a prayer gathering. Speakers paid tribute to the martyrs of the July-August uprising and stressed the importance of building a transparent, accountable, and discrimination-free society.
The main discussion was held on Wednesday (August 5) at the university's Academic Council Hall, where Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem attended as the chief guest.
Special guests included Professor Dr. Kazi Delowar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering; Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Kawchar, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning; and Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir.
Chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Director of Student Welfare, the programme featured speeches from representatives of faculty members, officers, staff, and students. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, Bangla translation, and prayers.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem described the July-August 2024 mass uprising as a landmark chapter in Bangladesh's history. He paid tribute to the martyrs and expressed sympathy for those who were injured during the movement.
He emphasised the need for national unity, responsible leadership, and presenting truth and reality with honesty so that public expectations are properly reflected in decision-making.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability, integrity, and professional excellence in public service. He urged everyone to work together to establish peace, justice, and a discrimination-free society, adding that engineering universities have a greater responsibility to contribute to national development through education, research, and innovation.
