The Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP), in partnership with the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), has launched the first batch of its Python Programming and UI/UX Design training programme to develop industry-ready ICT professionals.

The inauguration ceremony was held on Wednesday at the BASIS Auditorium in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka.

The event was moderated by Khaleda Begum, Chief Coordinator of SICIP. The chief guest was Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Administrator of BASIS and Joint Secretary of the Local Government Division. Special guest Md. Rowshan Kamal James, BASIS member and SICIP-BASIS focal person, and honoured guest Belal Ahmed, a member of the BASIS-SICIP Programme Standing Committee (PSC), also attended. Around 60 trainees participated in the inaugural session.

In his address, Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan said the programme should not be viewed merely as a free training course. Developing skilled human resources, creating employment and integrating unemployed youth into the economy remain key government priorities, and such initiatives play a significant role in achieving those goals.

He stressed that while professional certification is valuable, real expertise comes from continuous practice and hands-on experience. International-standard certification, he added, will strengthen participants' future career prospects.

Md. Rowshan Kamal James said there is no alternative to producing skilled professionals to meet the growing demand of Bangladesh's ICT industry. He noted that the SICIP-BASIS programme will help young people acquire job-oriented skills and align themselves with industry requirements through consistent learning and practice.

Speaking at the event, Belal Ahmed said BASIS has long been working with the government to strengthen Bangladesh's ICT sector. He encouraged trainees to make the most of the four-month programme and apply their newly acquired knowledge to their careers and the country's digital development.

Organisers said the SICIP-BASIS initiative will also offer training in other high-demand areas, including Technical Sales Specialist, alongside Python Programming and UI/UX Design, with the objective of strengthening Bangladesh's digital workforce and enhancing employment opportunities.
