JUST Gets Its First Pro-Vice-Chancellor as Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Assumes Office
Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan, a professor of the Business Administration Discipline at Khulna University, has joined Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) as its first Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
He formally assumed office at the Vice-Chancellor's Office at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29. The joining ceremony was attended by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Iyarul Kabir, Registrar Kazi Md. Jalal Uddin, and deans of the university's various faculties.
Earlier, on June 28, the Ministry of Education confirmed his appointment through a gazette notification signed by Md. Shah Alam Siraj, Assistant Secretary of the ministry.
Following the formalities, Professor Hasan laid wreaths at the university's Central Shaheed Minar and at the memorial dedicated to late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He later offered prayers seeking eternal peace for her departed soul.
Seeking the cooperation of all stakeholders to advance the university, the newly appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor said the university would work to implement the Prime Minister's "Bangladesh First" policy.
"I want Jashore University of Science and Technology to be first. That will only be possible if we can move our public universities forward. At this critical juncture for the country, I have taken on this responsibility and will need your support to fulfill it properly. We are carrying a significant burden of debt, but I believe this crisis can be overcome through proper leadership and coordinated efforts," he said.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Iyarul Kabir welcomed the appointment, saying:
"I am delighted to have a colleague with whom I can share responsibilities. Together, we will continue working for the development and progress of Jashore University of Science and Technology. Please keep us in your prayers so that we can take this university to a higher level."
Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan earned his MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka. He began his academic career on February 18, 1997, as a lecturer in the Business Administration Discipline at Khulna University. During his career, he served as Head of the Business Administration Discipline and Dean of the School of Management and Business Administration before being appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor of JUST.
