Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has unveiled an ambitious artificial intelligence (AI) roadmap aimed at making India self-reliant in the global AI race. Under the plan, AI-powered services will be integrated into everyday phone calls, mobile applications, and household activities across the country.

Speaking at Reliance’s annual general meeting in Mumbai on Friday, Ambani introduced a suite of advanced AI services for the nearly 500 million subscribers of telecom operator Jio.

Among the most notable innovations is Jio Call Agent, a built-in AI assistant capable of joining live phone conversations. The service can transcribe calls in real time, generate summaries of discussions, and perform tasks such as booking Uber rides, ordering food, or reserving restaurant tables through simple voice commands. Users can activate the service by saying “Hey Jio,” without needing any additional app.

Reliance also unveiled Jio Teleframe, a smart home display device designed to provide weather forecasts, family schedules, and important notifications automatically. Meanwhile, the MyJio application has been upgraded with AI capabilities, enabling users to activate eSIM services, select roaming plans, and perform other functions through natural language conversations.

Addressing shareholders, Ambani stressed that India should not remain merely a consumer of foreign AI technologies.

“India must become an innovator, adopter, and global leader in artificial intelligence,” he said.

To support that vision, Reliance has entered partnerships with major technology companies including Google, Meta, and NVIDIA. The company has also announced plans to invest US$110 billion in building domestic AI infrastructure.

Reliance further introduced a range of AI-powered services tailored to India’s 22 regional languages. These include JioHealthIQ for healthcare, JioLearnIQ for education, JioKrishiIQ for agriculture, and AI Vyapar for small businesses.

In a move closely watched by investors, Ambani also revealed that the board of Jio Platforms has approved a draft proposal to issue 270 million new shares as part of preparations for the company’s long-awaited initial public offering (IPO).

With Reliance shares having fallen roughly 17 percent this year, analysts believe the company is betting heavily on its AI-driven business strategy to revive growth momentum and strengthen investor interest ahead of Jio’s public market debut.
