Cabinet Approves Bogura University Transformation Plan
The cabinet has approved the draft of the Bogura University Act 2026 to transform Bogura Science and Technology University into a full-fledged general university with broader academic and research opportunities.
The cabinet has approved the draft of the “Bogura University Act, 2026”, paving the way for transforming Bogura Science and Technology University into a full-fledged general university.
The approval was given at the tenth cabinet meeting held at the National Parliament complex on Thursday (18 June), chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
According to a press release issued by the Cabinet Division, although the Bogura Science and Technology University Act, 2001 was published in the official gazette, it was never implemented. Administrative appointments and preparations for academic activities are currently underway.
The government said the decision reflects the need to move beyond a science and technology-focused institutional structure and create a broader higher education platform.
Under the proposed law, the university will be able to offer education and research opportunities across multiple disciplines, including science, biological sciences, engineering, technical education, arts, social sciences, business administration, law, agriculture and medical sciences.
The initiative aims to promote knowledge creation, strengthen research capacity and develop skilled human resources to meet future national demands.
The draft law was prepared as part of the government’s broader plan to expand multidisciplinary higher education opportunities.
