Two weeks ago, we embarked on the BSIA Silicon River USA Roadshow 2026. Looking back at this journey today, the greatest achievement for me is not a single meeting, a particular company, a photograph, or a signed contract. Alhamdulillah, the greatest achievement is a profound realization: InshaAllah, Bangladesh can achieve greatness, if only Bangladesh learns to believe in itself.

Across Austin, Phoenix, Folsom, Silicon Valley, and Oregon, we engaged with world-leading tech giants, prestigious universities, entrepreneurs, investors, and hundreds of Bangladeshi diaspora professionals. We held discussions with institutions like AMD, NXP, TEL, Purdue University, Arizona State University, Cactus Materials, GlobalFoundries, UC Berkeley, SanDisk, Synopsys, Credo, ARM, Intel, YES, and many more. Amidst individuals representing thousands of years of collective experience, I observed one recurring truth: the world waits for no one. Those who dare to dream, plan, and execute are the ones who write history, InshaAllah.

Many ask, "Bangladesh is small. How can we compete?" I say, look at Taiwan. A small island with limited natural resources and a modest population. Yet, a bold vision, a clear strategy, and decades of unwavering consistency have transformed them into a global technology superpower. The greatest shifts in history have never begun with massive landmasses; they began with massive ideas.

Some say, "Bangladesh is a failed state. Why would anyone invest here?" I view it entirely differently. If everything were perfect, where would the value of transformation lie? I believe the successful transformation of Bangladesh will not just be a local success story. It will serve as an inspiration for millions of youths worldwide who are searching for proof that real change is possible.

Many wonder, "Why you?" My answer is simple. I am no miracle worker. However, I believe that the combination of three elements is rare yet powerful: honesty, competence, and relentless hard work. It is the convergence of these three that ultimately delivers results.

Some argue, "Why now?" My response is, "It should have happened even sooner." But history shows that many great journeys started late. A delayed start is not a failure; the only true failure is never starting at all.

Others ask, "Where is everyone else?" To them, I say, "Our doors are wide open." This journey does not belong to a single individual, institution, or group. There is room for anyone who wishes to join. However, you cannot drag anyone along, nor can you force a dream upon someone. Participation is only meaningful when it is voluntary.

Many ask, "Why would foreign companies come to Bangladesh?" Because every company operates on its own strategy, goals, and future roadmap. Bangladesh's task is to understand their needs and offer a value proposition that exceeds their expectations. Competition is not merely about cost; it is about vision. Throwing money around will not attract top-tier impact; a company driven solely by the scent of money is inherently weak. If money were the only factor, the entirety of Silicon Valley would have shifted to Saudi Arabia by now.

Some ask, "Is Bangladesh investment-friendly?" My answer is we can be, and we must be. We must guarantee security, build a skilled workforce, and uphold absolute integrity. If we want to become an innovative nation, there is no alternative to these three pillars.

What is the role of the government? The government's job is not to run businesses. Its job is to ensure security, establish integrity, and cultivate skilled human resources. The creative energy of the nation will handle the rest. By government, I mean democratically elected parties and leaders—everyone. They must focus heavily on national development and filter out the incompetent, sycophantic, and corrupt cronies.

My call to the youth of Bangladesh: Strengthen your foundational knowledge. Acquire modern skills. Learn to ask "why" and "why not." Expand the horizon of your imagination. Be innovators—become part of the solution, not the problem. Own your responsibilities and embrace accountability. Maintain integrity. Be confident, yet remain humble. Fight for principles, not for individuals or factions. Because ultimately, we are all in the same boat.

And a brief word for the skeptics: If you have no investment of time, effort, money, or belief in an initiative, do not waste energy trying to tear it down. Instead, invest that time in your own dreams. The best way to increase light in the world is not by blowing out someone else's candle, but by lighting your own.

This roadshow has taught me another valuable lesson: building bridges is difficult, while building walls is easy. We have chosen the challenging path of building bridges.

My deepest gratitude goes out to everyone who stood by us on this journey—the corporations, universities, industries, diaspora communities, BSIA members, the BRAINGAIN network, representatives of the Bangladesh government, and countless silent contributors. Through your collective efforts, an idea is steadily transforming into a movement.

Silicon River is not a destination. It is a journey. And that journey has just begun. Alhamdulillah and InshaAllah.


Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Hussain is a world-renowned electronics scientist and a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, USA. After graduating from BUET, he obtained his master's degree from the University of Southern California and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Professionally, he has contributed to leading entities such as Texas Instruments, SEMATECH, and KAUST.
