Science Showcase Set for National Finale
Carrying the timely theme, “Science and Technology for Building an Innovation-Driven Bangladesh,” the national-level finale of the 47th National Science and Technology Week is set to begin in Dhaka tomorrow.
The three-day science festival and exhibition will be held from June 14 to June 16 at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon, Dhaka. Organized by the National Museum of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the mega event has already attracted students, young scientists, innovative thinkers, and aspiring entrepreneurs from across the country.
The National Museum of Science and Technology conducts this large-scale competition annually through a structured four-tier process. The journey begins at the upazila level, where young innovators participate in project exhibitions, science olympiads, and science quiz competitions.
The national-level finale of the 47th National Science and Technology Week will officially commence on June 14 in Agargaon. Around 250 young scientists and innovators who successfully advanced through all four competitive stages will participate in the final round. Alongside the science fair, the 10th National Science Olympiad and the 10th National Science Quiz Competition will also be held.
The event will be inaugurated on June 14 by Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam. The closing ceremony on June 16 will feature the presentation of awards to winners by Prime Minister’s Adviser Rehan Asif Asad.
Following the upazila-level competitions, winners advance to district-level contests, while district champions compete at the divisional stage. The best projects and competitors from the divisional rounds ultimately earn a place in the national finale.
This year’s national science festival will bring together approximately 250 selected finalists and talented innovators from various categories across the country. In addition to showcasing practical and technology-driven projects developed by amateur young scientists, the event will simultaneously host the 10th National Science Olympiad and the 10th National Science Quiz Competition.
The National Museum of Science and Technology has been observing Science and Technology Week since 1978. In 2017, the Science Olympiad and Science Quiz Competition were formally incorporated into the program.
According to the organizing committee, Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, MP, will formally inaugurate the fair as chief guest at 10:00 a.m. on June 14. The three-day event will conclude with a grand closing ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on June 16.
At the closing and prize-giving ceremony, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Affairs, Rehan Asif Asad, will present medals and trophies to the country’s top young scientists. Both the opening and closing ceremonies will be chaired by Ministry of Science and Technology Secretary Md. Anwar Hossain.
The museum authorities expressed hope that through the sustainable application of knowledge, creativity, and innovation, these young scientists will contribute technological solutions for building a prosperous and modern Bangladesh in the future.
The colorful three-day event is expected to attract students, parents, teachers, renowned scientists, senior government officials, heads of various agencies, and high-level policymakers. Visitors and science enthusiasts will have the opportunity to explore innovative projects developed by young scientists throughout the event.
