Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has expressed optimism that Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based traffic management systems will help reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka, increase road mobility, and curb unethical practices. He also called on all stakeholders to support the Prime Minister’s development plans.

While speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on Sunday, May 17, the minister outlined the government’s goals for the telecom sector.

“The government has a plan. Our target is technology production and export, along with creating new employment opportunities in this sector,” he said.

To achieve this, he noted that alongside software and hardware development, the government has established AI data centers as well as startup and innovation funds. “Digital sovereignty, investment policy, and employment generation for youth are among our key priorities,” he added.

Referring to global digital connectivity challenges, the minister said around 2.2 billion people worldwide still remain outside communication networks. He highlighted various government initiatives and plans aimed at ensuring that marginalized communities in Bangladesh also remain digitally connected.

“We are giving special importance to connectivity security and national welfare,” he said.

The event was chaired by Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Bilkis Jahan Rimi. Welcome speeches were delivered by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Major General Md. Emdad Ul Bari and ICT Secretary Kazi Anwar Hossain.

Special guests included State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin Putul, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain, and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Rehan Asif Asad.
