Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Alexey Likhachev, Director General (DG) of Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom.
The meeting took place at 10:00 am on Tuesday, 28 April, just ahead of the inauguration of the fuel (uranium) loading process for the first unit of the under-construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office under the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Those present included Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman; Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahabub Anam Swapan; Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad; and Russian Ambassador to Dhaka Alexander Grigorievich Khozin.
According to sources, following the meeting, the ministers and adviser are scheduled to travel by air to Ishwardi to attend the inauguration ceremony at Rooppur. Meanwhile, the inauguration time has been brought forward to 2:30 pm from the previously scheduled 3:00 pm.
