EST Empowers: JUST Hosts ISO 14001 Environmental Management Training

The Department of Environmental Science and Technology (EST) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has organized a training workshop on ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System—EMS), emphasizing the need for environmental management frameworks. The workshop aimed to equip students with the knowledge required to enhance environmental performance, comply with legal obligations, and contribute to sustainable development alongside their formal academic studies.

The workshop was held on Saturday, 15 November, at the gallery of the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building. Faculty members and students from various academic years of the EST department participated enthusiastically. The event was graced by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid as the chief guest.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor stated that every academic department should organize various training workshops alongside coursework to enrich students’ skills. He noted that such training experiences make learners more research-oriented. “The more students take part in seminars, conferences, and workshops, the more skills they will acquire. By developing as skilled human resources, our students will be able to participate nationally and internationally and work for the welfare of the country and the nation,” he added.

The keynote session was led by Md. Kabirul Alam, Lead Tutor and Business Head of AJA Bangladesh Ltd., while Audit Officer Masum-Al-Hasan Mehedi served as the joint speaker. They delivered detailed presentations—supported by research-based findings—on overcoming challenges in environmental performance improvement, compliance with legal requirements, and contributing effectively to sustainable development.

Special guest Professor Dr. Shirin Nigar, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, also addressed the workshop. Additional remarks were delivered by Professor Dr. Gopal Chandra Ghosh, Chairperson of the EST Department. Among the attendees were Dr. Nazneen Nahar, Provost of Taposhi Rabeya Hall, Associate Professor Dr. Moumita Chowdhury, faculty members of the EST department, and students from different academic years.

At the end of the program, participants received training certificates. The workshop was convened by Lecturer Fariha Farzana of the EST department, while student Ashikul Islam served as the presenter.
