Walton Wins ‘Green Factory Award’ Again for Eco-Friendly Innovation
Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, a listed engineering firm on the country’s stock market, has once again earned the prestigious ‘Green Factory Award’. The Bangladesh-based tech giant was recognized for its compliance, environmental responsibility, institutional governance, and innovative practices in the electrical and electronics manufacturing sector.
On Tuesday, June 24, the company received the Green Factory Award 2025 at a formal ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Abdul Gani Road, Dhaka. The award was presented by Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Shipping. Md. Yusuf Ali, Additional Managing Director (AMD) of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, received the crest and certificate on behalf of the company.
The event was also attended by Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, as the special guest. A.H.M. Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, presided over the ceremony.
The Green Factory Award was introduced to encourage local industries to adopt competitive and sustainable business practices by promoting eco-friendly technology, safe and decent work environments, and skilled labor to accelerate and stabilize economic growth. Under the Green Factory Award Policy 2020, a total of 30 factories from 16 sectors received this year’s award.
In his remarks following the recognition, Md. Yusuf Ali expressed Walton’s delight and pride, saying, “We are extremely happy and proud to receive the ‘Green Factory’ recognition for the second time. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and everyone involved for honoring Walton with this prestigious award.”
He highlighted Walton’s longstanding commitment to both producing high-quality electrical and electronic goods and protecting the environment. “In our manufacturing processes of fridges, ACs, TVs, compressors, washing machines, and more, we have deployed the most advanced eco-friendly machinery available globally,” he said.
He also noted that Walton has undertaken significant projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including installing rooftop solar systems and establishing the country’s largest one-megawatt-capacity floating solar power plant. In addition, steps have been taken to recycle metal and plastic as part of its green initiatives.
Walton is reported to be fully compliant with environmental and industrial regulations from its inception. Due to its contributions to developing the domestic tech manufacturing industry and its impact on the national economy, the company has received numerous national and international accolades, including the National Environment Award 2018, the President’s Industrial Development Award 2018, the National Export Trophy (Gold) 2022, and the Green Factory Award 2023.
