BTRC’s SIM Sanction: Deadline Set for De-Registration by October 30
After extending the previous deadline once, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has reminded mobile users to de-register or transfer ownership of any SIM cards exceeding ten under a single national ID by October 30, 2025. The commission has warned that failure to comply will result in automatic deactivation of extra SIMs.
According to BTRC, this strict measure aims to curb crime, strengthen cybersecurity, prevent the use of fake or untraceable SIMs, and ensure transparency in digital identity management.
In an official notice published on October 13 (Monday) through its verified Facebook page, BTRC stated:
“Keep a maximum of ten SIM cards under your NID and de-register or transfer ownership of the excess SIMs through your respective mobile operators’ customer care centers by October 30, 2025.”
Subscribers can check how many SIMs are registered under their national ID by sending the last four digits of their NID to 16001#. In response, they will receive an SMS listing the respective operators and number of SIMs.
BTRC further cautioned that customers who fail to deactivate excess SIMs within the stipulated time will face automatic de-registration through a random selection process initiated by the commission.
