Palak Shown Arrested in July Uprising Murder and Attempted Murder Cases

Former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has been officially shown arrested by a Dhaka court in the murder case of Farid Ahmed, who was killed during the July uprising near Jatrabari Police Station. Former Member of Parliament Kazi Monirul Islam Monu has also been shown arrested in the same case. Additionally, former Deputy Police Commissioner Md. Shahidullah and former Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan have been shown arrested in a separate attempted murder case linked to the same events.

On Wednesday, August 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed granted the arrest requests following a hearing. Sub-Inspectors Mahmudul Hasan and Nahid Hasan Khan of Jatrabari Police Station, who are investigating the cases, presented the accused before the court and sought official arrest status, which was approved.

According to the case involving Palak and Monirul, on August 5 last year, Farid Ahmed had joined a protest march on the Hanif Flyover in the Jatrabari area. He sustained gunshot wounds allegedly from the accused and was later admitted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following morning. A formal case was filed at Jatrabari Police Station on April 23 this year.

In the case involving Shahidullah and Abul Hasan, victim Abdur Razzak was shot in the Jatrabari area on the same day, August 5. After undergoing a lengthy recovery, he filed an attempted murder case on March 24 of this year.

Palak was initially detained by police on August 15 last year. Kazi Monirul Islam Monu was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) on April 21 this year. Shahidullah was taken into custody from the Ramna area on the morning of February 9, while Abul Hasan was arrested on September 17 of the same year.
