Further Delay in BUET Student Fardin Murder Probe Report Submission

The submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Fardin Noor Parash (24) has been postponed once again. On Sunday, July 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zamshed Alom fixed August 21 as the new date for report submission.
Previously, July 20 had been scheduled for the submission of the report. However, the investigating agency, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police, failed to submit the report, prompting the court to set a new date.
Earlier, on February 6, 2023, Detective Branch Inspector Yasin Shikder, the then-investigation officer, submitted a final report to the court. On April 16 of the same year, the court accepted a no-confidence petition filed by the plaintiff and ordered the CID to conduct further investigation and submit a new report.
Fardin was reported missing on November 5, 2022. On that day, his father, Kazi Noor Uddin, filed a general diary (GD) with Rampura Police Station. Two days later, on November 7 at around 6:00 PM, Fardin’s body was recovered from the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj by the River Police. On the evening of November 8, his body was buried at the Deulpara Central Graveyard in Fatullah, Narayanganj, in the presence of family members.
Following the incident, a case was filed at Rampura Police Station by Fardin’s father, Noor Uddin Rana, accusing Bushra and several unknown individuals of murder and concealing the body.
Bushra was arrested on the morning of November 10, 2022, from a house in the Rampura area of the capital. On the same day, Rampura police produced her before the court and sought a seven-day remand for proper investigation. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan granted a five-day remand.
Later, on January 8, the Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Tehsin Iftekhar, granted bail to Amatullah Bushra in the case.
