KUET Syndicate Decided to Reopen Residential Halls on May 2, Suspends 37 Students

In response to the recent clashes between students and BNP activists, the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) has temporarily suspended 37 students. The decision was made during an emergency syndicate meeting held on Monday evening, April 14. The meeting also decided to reopen residential halls on May 2 and resume academic activities from May 4.

Despite the syndicate's decisions, students have vowed to continue their sit-in protest. For the second consecutive night, KUET students are staying under the open sky and have declared that they will continue their demonstration until May 2 if necessary.

The university’s Public Relations Office issued a press release Monday night detailing the outcomes of the syndicate meeting. The release stated, “The 101st (emergency) syndicate meeting of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology was held on Monday at the university's conference hall.”

As per the agenda, the sealed investigation report of the committee formed following the unfortunate incidents of February 18 and 19 was presented during the meeting. The report, which originated from the 98th emergency syndicate meeting on February 19, was formally accepted by the syndicate. Based on the report, 37 students were temporarily suspended for their alleged involvement in the clashes.

The statement further mentioned that “the matter has been forwarded to the university's Student Discipline Committee for necessary action as per the recommendations of the investigation report.”

Additionally, the syndicate resolved that all academic activities at the university will resume on May 4, while residential halls will reopen on May 2 for students.
