Unexploded Cocktails Recovered from Kazipara Metro Track
Two unexploded crude bombs (“cocktails”) were recovered from the metro rail track near Kazipara Metro Station by the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, 21 November, in the Kafrul police station area. Earlier, around 9:00 a.m., MRT Police were informed that two cocktails were lying on the railway track.
According to the Bomb Disposal Unit’s incident report, the two cocktails had been thrown onto the track, but they did not detonate.
Upon receiving the alert, the Bomb Disposal Unit quickly reached the spot, conducted a risk assessment, and then safely removed the two cocktails from the metro line.
The recovered crude bombs were later taken to a secure location and neutralized.
All evidence collected from the site has been handed over to Kafrul Police Station for further legal action.
Inspector (Investigation) Sohel Chowdhury of MRT Police said that the two cocktails—wrapped with Scotch tape inside jorda tins—were placed on the track over pillars No. 288 and 289. Track maintenance workers were the first to notice them. Once informed, the DMP Bomb Disposal Unit removed and secured the devices. No damage was caused to the metro line. A case is underway at Kafrul Police Station.
When asked whether CCTV footage was available from the location, the investigation officer said there were no CCTV cameras at the exact spot where the cocktails were found. However, police are collecting and analyzing footage from nearby buildings and shops.
Notably, unidentified miscreants have been triggering crude bomb explosions in various parts of the capital for the past two weeks. On 16 November—one day before the first verdict in the trial of crimes against humanity committed in 2024—a cocktail exploded under the Karwan Bazar Metro Rail Station. On the same day at 9:20 p.m., another explosion occurred under pillar No. 177 in Mirpur-12. Unexploded cocktails have also been discovered in several places. Last Wednesday night, a DMP assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from Pallabi Police Station was injured in a cocktail blast. Police have arrested several suspects believed to be involved in the recent bombings in the capital.
