JUST Renames Five Campus Landmarks
The Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has renamed five campus landmarks, including structures previously named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and other members of their family.
The decision was made during a Regent Board meeting on Friday (February 28), held at 4:30 PM in the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room. The meeting, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Abdul Hamid, concluded at 9:30 PM with 18 board members in attendance. Alongside the renaming, several other resolutions were adopted.
According to university sources, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Academic Building has been renamed Kabi Nazrul Academic Building, while the Sheikh Hasina Female Dormitory is now Taposi Rabeya Female Dormitory. The Sheikh Russel Gymnasium has been renamed Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman Gymnasium, and the Wazed Miah Center for Higher Education and Research is now Institute for Higher Studies and Research. Additionally, the student dormitory at the university’s Veterinary College in Jhenaidah has been renamed Kabi Golam Mostafa Student Dormitory.
Regarding the renaming process, JUST Regent Board member and Treasurer Professor Hossain Al Mamun told journalists, "The renaming process was conducted with utmost transparency. Following student demands, new name proposals were invited, and after careful evaluation of suggestions from students, faculty, and staff, the final decisions were made in the Regent Board meeting."
