Bangladesh, Sri Lanka Seek Stronger IT Cooperation

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have explored stronger cooperation in information technology, IT-enabled services and business process outsourcing, with a focus on expanding business and institutional linkages between the two countries. A representative delegation of the Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) held a meeting with Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr. Dharmapala Weerakkody in Dhaka.
The meeting was held on 22 September 2026, Tuesday. Ms. Gayanga Dias, Second Secretary at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Dhaka, was also present.
The BACCO delegation comprised Mr. Tanvir Ibrahim, President; Mr. Faisal Alim, Secretary General; Mr. Abdul Kader, Director; Ms. Sayma Shawkat, Director; and Mr. Salim Sarker, Executive Coordinator, BACCO Secretariat.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the IT, IT-enabled Services (ITES), and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sectors. The participants emphasized stronger business and institutional linkages and explored opportunities for greater private-sector engagement.
Potential participation and engagement around Sri Lanka Expo 2027 were also discussed. Possible initiatives include business-to-business sessions, business networking, and engagement with relevant government and industry organizations from both countries.
The meeting further explored opportunities for knowledge and experience sharing, market access, investment and business connections, skills development, and increased private-sector participation. Both sides highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for direct interaction between businesses and relevant stakeholders to identify areas of mutual interest and develop meaningful collaboration.
BACCO said it looks forward to building on the longstanding relationship and engagements between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The organization also expressed interest in exploring new cooperation opportunities that can contribute to the growth, internationalization and global connectivity of the IT, ITES and BPO industries in both countries.
