Dhaka, September 9, 2026: Bangladesh is set to begin the process of selecting its national team for the 28th International Robot Olympiad through the national round of the IRO Bangladesh Open 2026, scheduled for September 11–12 at the University of Asia Pacific campus in Dhaka.
Organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network, the two-day competition will bring together students selected through an online preliminary round from across the country.
The International Robot Olympiad is one of the leading global competitions for students in robotics, programming and technology-driven creativity. Bangladesh will participate in the competition for the ninth time this year.
The theme of this year’s International Robot Olympiad is ‘Cultural Heritage Service Robots’. The competition will focus on developing robots and technology-based solutions that can present cultural heritage to people, create opportunities to understand it and contribute to its preservation.
The first day, September 11, will feature the Creative Category and Physical Computing competitions. On September 12, participants will compete in the Mission Challenge and Robotics Quiz. The closing and award ceremony will also be held on the final day.
According to the organizers, registration for the competition was open from August 1 to August 25. During this period, Bangladesh Robot Olympiad trainers conducted 12 robotics workshops across all eight divisions, providing training to around 1,500 students.
The online preliminary selection round was held on August 28 and 29. Students selected through that process will compete in the national round.
Md. Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division, will attend the event as chief guest.
Special guests will include Dr. Mohammad Ahmed Bhuiyan, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Asia Pacific; Dr. Sadia Sharmin, Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Information and Communication Technology Directorate; and Moon Sadia Dipti, Director of the Analog Layout Design Department at Ulkasemi.
The University of Asia Pacific is hosting the national round of IRO Bangladesh Open 2026, organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network.
Ulkasemi is the gold sponsor, Creative IT is the silver sponsor, while RH Corporation, Texco Tech, Millennium Organics and Innovative Product Network Co. Ltd. are serving as bronze sponsors.
The ICT Division and the ICT Directorate of the Government of Bangladesh are supporting the Bangladesh national team.
Bangladesh Robot Olympiad has been working for the past nine years as a platform for preparing students for international robotics competitions. Alongside Bangladesh’s consistent achievements at the International Robot Olympiad, the initiative has also played an important role in expanding robotics education across the country.
According to the organizers, Bangladesh has won 94 medals, including 15 gold medals, in the last eight editions of the International Robot Olympiad.
A subsequent international team selection camp will be organized with students selected from the national round. The national team will be formed based on their performance at the camp.
The selected team will represent Bangladesh at the 28th International Robot Olympiad in Vienna, Austria, in January 2027.
