The Department of Microbiology (MB) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) organized a colorful rally, tree plantation program, and the final round of the Microbiology Olympiad to mark International Microbiology Day 2026. The events are part of a month-long campaign launched on September 1 focusing on 'Antibiotic Resistance' awareness.
On Saturday at 11:00 AM, a rally was brought out from the administrative building, ending in front of the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building. JUST Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan planted a sapling on the premises and visited the exhibition stalls set up by the department. Later, he inaugurated the final round of the Microbiology Olympiad at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery, where 80 shortlisted students from various schools and colleges in Jashore competed.
Welcoming the initiative, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan praised the department for engaging school and college students. He noted that raising awareness about microbiology at the school level will create positive perceptions among students and the general public, encouraging young learners to pursue higher studies and research in biological sciences. He also urged students to pursue their goals with dedication and integrity.
The event featured addresses by Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Md. Najmul Hasan, Chairman of BME Dept. Prof. Dr. Md. Alauddin, Chair of Microbiology Dept. Dr. Selina Akter, and Convener Dr. Abhinu Kibria Islam. Proctor Dr. Md. Hamidur Rahman, English Dept. Chair Dr. Farzana Nasrin, along with faculty members and students, were present.
