Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan Urges LGED Officials to Ensure Efficient Use of Resources

The government has stressed expanding the use of eco-friendly Uni-blocks and CC-blocks in rural road construction while selling surplus solar electricity to the national grid through net-metering to curb energy expenditures. The emphasis came during a review meeting on LGED's development activities held today at the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. Addressing as chief guest, Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan urged officials to ensure the maximum utilization of limited national resources while preventing public fund wastage.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan reminded officials that public servants are the custodians of state assets. He noted that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia laid the groundwork for modern rural infrastructure through LGED, and under the current leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, ongoing infrastructure initiatives will deliver long-term benefits to the nation over the next 20 to 30 years.
State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam outlined technical guidelines, directing officials to replace traditional bricks with Uni-blocks and CC-blocks for 6-to-9-foot wide rural roads and use RCC carpeting with local stone for heavy-traffic routes. He also suggested planting 'Binna grass' along riverbanks and flood-prone roads to prevent soil erosion. Furthermore, he mandated setting up rooftop solar systems across Union and Upazila Parishads to generate additional revenue and lower power utility bills by feeding surplus electricity into the national grid via net-metering.
Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan and LGED Chief Engineer Md. Belal Hossain attended the meeting alongside senior ministry officials, project directors, and Upazila engineers.
