Technical Snag Grounds Biman Flight in Rome; Toronto-Rome-Dhaka Schedules Disrupted

7 August, Friday: Biman Bangladesh Airlines' Toronto-Rome-Dhaka flight has been grounded at Rome Fiumicino Airport in Italy following an unexpected technical glitch. As engineers conduct necessary safety checks and repair work, the departure of the corresponding Dhaka-Rome-Toronto route has also faced significant delays.

On Friday (August 7) evening, a public relations official from Biman confirmed on condition of anonymity that technical issues were flagged immediately after the aircraft landed in Rome. Following initial inspection, aviation authorities declared the aircraft grounded for mandatory safety checks.

Later in the night, Biman Bangladesh Airlines issued a press release clarifying that Flight BG306 (Toronto–Rome–Dhaka) encountered an unforeseen technical fault during operation. In light of safety protocols, comprehensive technical inspections are underway in Rome. Biman confirmed that all stranded passengers in Rome have been provided with hotel accommodation, meals, and necessary assistance.

Biman further communicated that Flight BG306 will depart for Dhaka as soon as technical clearances and safety inspections are completed. However, because the same aircraft operates the return leg, Flight BG305 (Dhaka–Rome–Toronto) has been rescheduled to depart on August 8 at 1:00 PM (13:00 hours). Biman has requested all concerned passengers to report to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by 9:00 AM on August 8.
