Bangladesh Wins Three Bronze Medals at the 3rd International AI Olympiad in Kazakhstan

7 August, Friday: Team Bangladesh achieved a momentous victory at the 3rd International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IOAI 2026) held in Astana, Kazakhstan, securing three bronze medals. The global competition officially concluded today, August 7, following the grand closing ceremony and results announcement.

The international Olympiad, which commenced on August 2, gathered 437 talented contestants from 107 countries. On August 4 and 6, contestants competed in grueling 6-hour individual machine learning contests daily to solve complex computing problems, alongside collaborative multi-national team activities.

The three Bangladeshi bronze medalists are Labib Shahriar (Class 10, Homna Adarsha High School, Comilla), Md. Saiduzzaman Araf (Class 11, Moulvibazar Government College), and Mobtasim Chowdhury Priyom (Class 11, Notre Dame College, Dhaka). Anonya Zarif Akond (Class 11, Monno International School and College, Manikganj) participated as the fourth core team member. The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. B M Mainul Hossain from the Institute of Information Technology (IIT), University of Dhaka, alongside Team Coach Dr. Mohammad Azam Khan from Daffodil International University.

Reflecting on the team's trajectory, Delegation Leader Prof. Dr. B M Mainul Hossain remarked, "We went from zero medals in Bulgaria to two bronzes in China, and now three bronze medals in Kazakhstan. The team's continuous progress is promising, though further training facilities are essential to reach higher milestones."

Expressing his joy, medalist Md. Saiduzzaman Araf stated, "Winning a medal is about inspiring the next generation. My primary goal was to motivate future Bangladeshi participants to keep pushing boundaries and sustain this winning momentum."

The national selection process commenced in April 2026, organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). Following regional rounds and the national finals hosted at BUBT, selected students received two months of rigorous online mentoring.
