Police have arrested alleged criminal Mobarak Hossain, widely known as David Emon, who has recently been accused of targeting internet service providers (ISPs) through extortion demands and violent attacks in Chattogram.

He was arrested on Wednesday from the Dhumdhumpur area of Jessore during an intelligence-led operation, according to police.

A senior official of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) confirmed the arrest to local media, saying officers set up a checkpoint based on intelligence information before detaining the suspect.

Police said David Emon is being brought to Chattogram for further legal proceedings.

According to law enforcement sources, David Emon is known as a follower of fugitive top-listed criminal Boro Sajjad, who is believed to be abroad. Investigators allege that Emon and his associates were involved in threatening and attacking internet service providers and demanding large sums of money from businesses in the ISP sector.

Police records also show that David Emon has been named in at least seven murder cases over the past two years, including the Bakalia double murder (2025), the Patenga beach killing of Dhakaiya Akbar (2025) and the 2024 brushfire killings of Anis and Mohammad Hasan. Investigations into those cases remain ongoing.

Police emphasized that the allegations are under investigation and will be addressed through the judicial process.
