Google has introduced a special Search animation to celebrate Lionel Messi's new World Cup scoring record. Users searching for "Messi" or "Lionel Messi" can now enjoy an interactive Argentina-themed visual experience.
Lionel Messi has set a new record for the most goals scored in FIFA World Cup history. To mark the achievement, Google has launched a special animation within its Search platform.
Users who search for "Messi" or "Lionel Messi" on Google can now see an interactive visual effect featuring Messi's image alongside Argentina's sky-blue and white-themed football graphics and fireworks.
The animation starts with a football rising across the screen before disappearing. A fireworks icon then appears at the bottom of the search results page. Clicking the icon triggers a full-screen fireworks display inspired by Argentina's national colours.
June 23, Monday night, Messi scored in the 38th minute against Austria in Argentina's second World Cup match, setting a new all-time scoring record. He later added another goal in the same match.
With those two goals, Messi's World Cup tally reached 18 goals, making him the highest scorer in the tournament's history.
Germany's Miroslav Klose sits second with 16 goals. France's Kylian Mbappé is level with Klose on the same number.
Google has a long-standing tradition of creating special Search experiences to celebrate major global events and sporting achievements. The new Messi-themed animation is the latest addition to that effort.
