Amazon Plans Content Marketplace as Publisher–AI Dispute Intensifies
Amid ongoing tensions between publishers and artificial intelligence–based companies over rules governing the use of online content, Amazon has signaled a new initiative. According to The Information, Amazon is planning to launch a marketplace where publishers will be able to sell their content directly to companies that supply AI products. Reuters reported the development.
According to the report, slides shared with publishing industry executives ahead of an Amazon Web Services conference referenced a “content marketplace.” In those slides, the marketplace was presented alongside Amazon’s core AI tools—such as Bedrock and Quick Suite—positioning the offering as suitable for publishers’ commercial use.
The initiative comes at a time when publishers are increasingly pressing for additional fees for the use of their content in AI model training and AI-driven applications.
An Amazon spokesperson said there is nothing specific to announce at this stage, but added that the company continues to innovate while maintaining long-term relationships with publishers.
